  1. About Version 2.1.3:
  2.  
  3.     Version 2.1.3 of BBEdit is an incremental update which includes only bug
  4. fixes; no new functionality is added. The following problems are addressed
  5. in version 2.1.3:
  6.  
  7.     -    in some low-memory conditions, BBEdit would crash or behave
  8.         unpredictably.
  9.         
  10.     -    previous versions of BBEdit would keep PowerBooks from going to
  11.         sleep.
  12.         
  13.     -    Although BBEdit could open files with more than 32,767 lines,
  14.         the vertical scrollbar would behave strangely, and scrolling
  15.         through such files was impossible.
  16.         
  17.     -    Grep-based searches are between two and four times faster than
  18.         before, depending on the computer you're running BBEdit on.
  19.         
  20.     -    If a file located as the result of an Open Selection command
  21.         is an alias, the alias will be resolved, rather than 
  22.         (incorrectly) opening the data fork of the alias itself.
  23.         
  24.     -    in version 2.1.2, clicking on the pencil in the status bar 
  25.         would cause a crash.
  26.         
  27. The following bugs were fixed in version 2.1.2, released on June 8, 1992.

  29.     -   under some circumstances, the function keys F1 through F4 on the
  30.         extended keyboard would be out of sync with the enabling of the
  31.         Edit menu.
  32.     
  33.     -   with some printer drivers, the image of the last page (if printing
  34.         backwards) or the first printed page (if printing from a page other
  35.         than the beginning) would be blasted onto the screen.
  36.         
  37.     -   under some conditions, wrapping text would cause update glitches
  38.         in the document window being wrapped.
  39.         
  40.     -   Entab and Detab now correctly compress and expand tabs.
  41.     
  42.     -    Entab/Detab and Zap Gremlins would not properly disable the Undo
  43.         command.
  44.         
  45.     -    under some conditions, using Zap Gremlins would cause update
  46.         glitches in the front document window.
  47.     
  48.     -    when using Auto-Backup or Make Backup Now with long file names,
  49.         BBEdit would hang.
  50.         
  51.     -    Replace All operations would not mark the window "dirty" (needing
  52.         to be saved).
  53.         
  54.     -    Replace All operations using Grep would replace occurrences with
  55.         the grep pattern, and not the appropriate replacement string.
  56.         (This was introduced in 2.1.1.)
  57.         
  58.     -    BBEdit now displays memory usage in its about box.
  59.     
  60.     -    When Show Line Numbers was turned on, horizontal autoscrolling would
  61.         leave the insertion point past the right-hand edge of the window.
  62.         
  63. The following bugs were fixed in version 2.1.1, released on May 8, 1992.
  64.  
  65.     -   If the Batch Results window was closed while "Add To Results" is
  66.         turned on, the next attempt to search without changing the
  67.         Add To Results switch would result in "NIL Master Pointer" message,
  68.         or possibly a crash.
  69.         
  70.     -   Some utilities which reshape the Open and Save As dialogs (such as
  71.         Norton Directory Assistance) are now visible in these dialogs when
  72.         used with BBEdit.
  73.         
  74.     -   There is a bug in the TrueType INIT for use with System 6 which
  75.         causes the system to crash when drawing text using the
  76.         "grayishTextOr" mode. BBEdit 2.1.1 works around this bug.
  77.         
  78.     -   Under some conditions, using "Go To Line" would leave a white
  79.         blotch in the front document window.
  80.         
  81.     -   Trying to Cut or Copy a selection larger than available memory
  82.         would result in a crash.
  83.         
  84.     -   stability in extreme low-memory conditions is somewhat improved.
  85.     
  86.     -   under System 7.0 on a 68000 machine (Plus, SE, Classic, Portable,
  87.         PowerBook 100, Outbound), bringing BBEdit to the front after 
  88.         switching out with a dialog box in front would crash the system
  89.         with an Odd Address error.
  90.         
  91.     -   under some conditions, Replace All would loop endlessly, until
  92.         cancelled by Command-Period.
  93.     
  94.     -   files opened from A/UX 3.0 UNIX partitions would always be opened 
  95.         read-only. (Files opened from Macintosh partitions were always
  96.         opened correctly.)
  97.         
  98.     -   some extensions which added items to the Open and Save dialogs
  99.         would cause BBEdit to crash.
  100.         
  101.     -   the full-scale tiling which was previously done was visually impressive,
  102.         but virtually useless with large numbers of windows, since it tended
  103.         to create windows which were too small. BBEdit now uses the full
  104.         screen height, and the minimum width of a window gives more usable
  105.         area than before. If there are multiple layers, the windows are 
  106.         stacked exactly atop one another.
  107.         
  108.     -   in some cases, the selection would be set to the very beginning, very
  109.         end, or some random location in the file following a wrap.
  110.         
  111.     -   menu keystrokes would be mis-translated if typed on international
  112.         keyboards; for example, Command-Q typed on a French keyboard would
  113.         be interpreted as Command-A.
  114.  
  115.     -   "MPW Compatible" is now the default, because many people didn't know
  116.         that it was available to change menu key equivalents.
